I never knew vulnerability. I never knew fear. I never knew pain, until I became a Mother. I never knew love that was set and fixed to my very bones. I never knew joy. I never knew strength, until I became a Mother. I have set my body against the wheel of time for this love. I have closed off dark places inside me and gave of my very blood with ecstatic joy, for this love. I have been the Monstrous Mother and also the gentle place to fall into. I have been all teeth and claws. I have been rivers of milk and open as a wet flower. I have felt death and life pass through my sacred body and for that I must be thankful.
